Janet Cleghorn
Borders artist, Janet Cleghorn, worked as a textile designer for many years before establishing herself as a successful still life artist over ten years ago.
Working from a very cluttered studio her mixed media still life paintings feature "treasures" - textile samples, embroidery, lace, china, old bottles, collected over the years. Fruit and flowers placed with these give freshness to the groupings. These arrangements are looked upon from an aerial perspective with Janet working methodically from the base completing one level at a time. The aerial view allows the shapes and patterns to be flattened and refined and traditional subject matter takes on a quirky more contemporary feel. The importance of the fabrics and their construction within the paintings reflect her past in textile design.
Recently, she has been a regular exhibitor at the Borders Art Fair and has also exhibited with numerous galleries in exhibitions across the UK.
