Gilly Langton

A designer and maker with a passion for combining mixed materials to create unique one of a kind and batch production pieces of jewellery and small objects.

Gilly’s jewellery practice began in Lancashire in 1997. Since then she has created collections of work for exhibitions at Goldsmiths Fair and an exclusive collection commissioned by the British Museum, along with supplying jewellery stockists worldwide.

With a background in traditional silversmithing and jewellery, Gilly’s approach to making is hands on. Inspired by architecturally inspired shapes, metals are manipulated through the fabrication of forms while hand tooling marks create surface and texture.

Inspired by her nautical surroundings, living and working in the small Highland fishing village of Plockton, each colour is a direct response to the changing hues upon the seascapes and landscapes. Nautical architectural equipment scattered along the harbour, creates a starting point for each piece, using photography, sketchbook and sampling to document, research and develop every new piece of work.

Gilly’s exploration of her chosen materials has led to combining the strength of metal with the softness of hand dyed elastic, creating an extensive palette ranging from subtle shades to vibrant colours. This use of colour and contrast in materials creates a joyful and tactile quality to each piece, resulting in collections that are both contemporary and experimental.
