Andrew Holmes

After gaining an Art and Design Degree in 1980, Andrew Holmes worked as a freelance illustrator, collaborating on commercial projects in advertising, design, TV and film, until 2008 when he returned to painting.

Exploring the aesthetic response lies at the centre of Holmes' art practice. His curiosity is in how contextualisation influences our perception and response to art. Working with oil, acrylic and mediums on paper, canvas, wood panel and metal, Holmes has adopted two themes from figurative painting; still life and the figure. The approach to each subject is informed by the development of early formal figurative painting and his principle interest in contemporary painting.

Holmes has exhibited in group and solo shows through independent galleries and curated open exhibitions in London, the wider UK, USA and international art fairs. His work has gained awards and is found in private and corporate collections.

Born 1959 in Kent, England, lives and works in London.
